E-COMMERCE GIANT CHECKOUT CHARLIE IS FOCUSING ITS BUSINESS ON ITALY AND SPAIN


The Berlin-based e-commerce platform expands operations to Southern Europe. Spain and Italy have growing e-commerce markets that offer great potential

Checkout Charlie, a company of the RTL Germany media group, is expanding again in Europe. The German company decided to invest in Southern Europe launching two new voucher portals: Buonisconto.it in Italy and Topdescuento.es in Spain. Currently, the Berlin-based company for smart online shopping operates a total of 14 portals in six European countries. The two websites are focused on vouchers, discounts, and native advertising, media said. “The internationalization towards Spain and Italy was the next logical step. Both countries have growing e-commerce markets that offer great potential,” said Martin Riess, Managing Director of Checkout Charlie.

According to Checkout Charlie, Italy and Spain both offer great conditions for the new portals.  Italy has the fourth largest voucher market in Europe after the United Kingdom, Germany and France. In addition, 21% of the top retailers are already active in the couponing area – another 33% want to invest in affiliate marketing in the future.

A study by Osservatori.net in 2018 also shows that in Italy, 21 percent of the top retailers are already active in the area of couponing, while another 33 percent wants to invest in affiliate marketing in the future. On the other hand,  Spain has still a relatively undeveloped e-commerce landscape, if compared to other European markets. Italy is one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in Western Europe. Revenue in the e-commerce market is projected to reach US$20,588m in 2020, while the market’s largest segment is Fashion with a projected market volume of US$5,740m in 2020. According to Statista, user penetration will be 55.1% in 2020 and is expected to hit 67.1% by 2024, while the average revenue per user (ARPU) is expected to amount to US$618.11.

Checkout Charlie said that each online retailer has connected his websites to both portals, which lists their latest vouchers and offers. It also provides relevant information on redemption conditions and contact details of the company. Moreover, they also provide informative and customer-oriented content created by the international in-house team. The user is advised on his shopping experience and guided through the buying process.
